The Waikato Conservancy of DOC includes the Coromandel Peninsula, part of the King Country and most of the Waikato region. It manages nearly 270,000 ha of public conservation land and 1,200 km of coastline.
The conservancy is divided into three areas, each with its own office and staff.
Culturally the area falls mainly within the rohe of Tainui waka and the Tainui, Hauraki, Maniapoto and Raukawa Trust Boards.
