The Gisborne Whakatane Area Office manages a coastal strip stretching from Matata in the Bay of Plenty region around the East Cape and southwards to Wharerata. It includes Raukumara Forest Park and the Waioeka Scenic Reserve and uses Te Urewera National Park as its western boundary.
