NZ Cycle Trail project: The Timber Trail, Pureora - Ongarue
Government funding has been made available as part of the New Zealand Cycleway project to develop the The Timber Trail, Pureora - Ongarue, previously known as the Central North Island Rail Trail cycleway.
This is a new two-day cycleway on the western side of the Hauhungaroa Range between Pureora and Ongarue. Much of the route will be in Pureora Forest Park. When fully completed in 2012, it will provide 80 km of cycling and follow historic bush tramways, old bulldozer and haul roads, and newly constructed track. The Timber Trail will also be able to be walked.
