Public meetings on partial review of Kahurangi National Park Management Plan

People can get information about proposed new draft management proposals for Kahurangi National Park at public meetings being held in Nelson, Motueka, Takaka and Karamea in August.

A presentation on the partial review of the Kahurangi National Park Management Plan will be given at each meeting and questions about it can be put to Department of Conservation staff.

The meetings are being held in:

Nelson, at 7pm, Monday 10 August, at Fairfield House, Trafalgar Street South;

Motueka, at 7pm, Tuesday 11 August, at Department of Conservation Motueka Area Office, cnr King Edward and High Streets;

Takaka, at 7pm, Wednesday 12 August, at the Takaka Bowling Club Rooms, 17 Hiawatha Lane;

Karamea, at 7pm, Thursday 13 August, at the Karamea Bowling Club, Oparara Road.

Public submissions can be made on the draft new plan provisions up until Friday 4 September. Submissions can only be made on the five matters being reviewed. These include proposals for monitored mountain biking trials on the Heaphy Track during the five-month winter visitor season and year-round on the Flora Saddle to Barron Flat and Kill Devil tracks; also draft provisions relating to aircraft, hunting and guided horse trekking access and consideration of private or commercial accommodation on the Heaphy Track.
