Conservation Minister Steve Chadwick today announced this year's appointments to the Wellington Conservation Board.
"I am pleased to appoint Ra Pomare to the board and to reappoint Liana Poutu and Haami Te Whaiti," Steve Chadwick said.
"The new makeup of the board represents a wide range of local communities in Wellington and will give sound advice to the Department of Conservation (DOC) on its policy and directions. Conservation boards play a vital role in giving independent advice on local issues and are a way for local communities to be a part of conservation decisions."
Conservation boards provide links between the community and DOC, and represent the public interest in the department's work and conservation in general.
Ra Pomare has a conservation background, and extensive experience of working with iwi and community to the board.
Liana Poutu has legal and analytical skills relating to public process and tikanga Māori, and is involved in Hoe Waka.
Haami Te Whaiti is a member of nine different community committees concerning Maori, environmental, and natural heritage issues with experience in research, submission writing and teaching.
"I am sure that Ra will add valuable experience and skills to this highly competent and committed board, and I thank Ra for his willingness to take up this important conservation role."
Ms Chadwick thanked retiring board Chair Bev Abbott for her efforts and commitment during her time on the board.
