The Department of Conservation are actively fighting 3 fires in the Wanganui Conservancy.
In Taranaki the Aotuia fire, which is into its 8th day is under control although a lot of work is still required before ground crew can leave the area. 12 fire fighters and 3 helicopters are working in the vicinity at present.
Another fire started on Tuesday evening in Pipiriki on the Whanganui River. This has threatened the village over the last 36 hours and crew have been working hard to keep it under control. Fighting this has been a joint effort between Winstone Pulp, Ruapehu District Council and DOC who are working together to extinguish the fire.
The fire in the upper Waitotara Valley is still being monitored although resources are having to be spread between all fires with priority going to the latest fire in Pipiriki.
