Local community groups, and businesses have got together to for this event to remind everyone how special the ocean is, and how each of us can play a role in protecting that beauty. All organisers agreed to host activities that were apolitical, non-commercial, educational and that promoted either the protection or enjoyment of the ocean.

In between beach games, scavenger hunts and boat rides festival goers will be entertained with live music and performances from local musicians including Three's Company, Tauranga Samba, Derrin Richards, puppeteer Kathy Lawson and the students from Play it Cool drama.

The second annual Sea Festival is co-ordinated by the Department of Conservation and the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic, but it is has been a team effort on a grand scale. "By working with a wide variety of organisations, agencies and community groups to produce one large-scale quality event we thought that Sea Week could be more effectively promoted in Tauranga", says event co-ordinator Emma Andrucci from the Bay of Plenty Polytechnic.
