Date: 24 July 2008

Conservation Week is coming and what better time to celebrate being part of conservation in New Zealand than to be a Department of Conservation (DOC) ranger for a day!

All you have to do is tell us why conservation is important to you in around 150 words.

There are two age categories: 9 - 12 years and 13 - 15 years. The winners of each category will spend a day with DOC rangers at Te Whanganui-A-Hei Marine Reserve and monitoring threatened wildlife, during the school holidays.

Put your name, school, age and address at the top of your entry and send it to Department of Conservation, 'Ranger for a Day' Competition, PO Box 343, Thames 3540 or email it to rcaldwell@doc.govt.nz before the 5 September 2008.

Entries will be judged by John Gaukrodger, DOC Hauraki Area Manager and Debbie Driver, Gateway Programme, Thames High School.
