Future recreation use at Whakaipo Bay Recreation: Public input wanted

Date: 12 February 2008

DOC hopes for a good turn out at a public meeting it's hosting on Saturday 16 February at Whakaipo Bay. The department wants feedback on a proposed draft plan which outlines areas of future recreation use at the popular recreation reserve.

Whakaipo Bay is used by many individuals and groups throughout the year and in contrast to other bays around Lake Taupo the reserve is enjoyed for its informality and relative peacefulness.

"Continued development around Lake Taupo is putting pressure many of lakeshore reserves and recreation areas," says Dave Lumley Turangi Taupo Area Manager. "We hope the proposed plan will enhance future opportunities for the public at Whakaipo Bay."

The draft landscape plan also shows a variety of planting sites to be developed throughout the reserve. This opens up a range of possibilities for community groups to be involved in planting programmes at the reserve on an on-going basis.

The public meeting starts at 10.30am at the Girl Guide Camp at Whakaipo Bay. Additional information can be obtained from Lianne Fraser, tel: +64 7 386 9263.
