DOC website recognised in plain English awards
Date: 11 September 2008
The DOC website is a finalist in the 2008 WriteMark New Zealand Plain English Awards.
"We're delighted to be recognised in these awards," Website Supervisor Nicholas Butler said today.
"Plain English is about putting your audience first. Working on the DOC website we have to do this because our audience is the future of conservation. We want to make it as easy as possible for people to learn about DOC's conservation work, to get involved in conservation themselves and to get out and enjoy New Zealand's glorious parks and reserves."
"We have a big website, about 12,000 pages, so there's always room for improvement. We also have a big team working on the site, more than 500 writers and editors up and down the country, and recognition like this makes the whole team's hard work even more rewarding."
The annual awards are hosted by the WriteMark Plain English Awards Trust and aim to:
- raise public awareness of the need for and benefits of plain English
- create a public preference for organisations that choose to communicate in plain English
- promote the importance of writing to an agreed plain English standard.
