Explain “CarboNZero”
You can pay Landcare Research to broker tree planting to offset the carbon that you’ve emitted, e.g. from air travel (which on average emits 180g of CO2 per kilometre per person). Alternatively, one can gain carbon-neutral certification - the CarboNZero brand - for business activities by offsetting emissions, as long as some emissions are reduced directly, e.g. by converting vehicles to biofuels or improving fuel efficiency.
The scheme is attractive because Landcare Research may be able to broker the tree planting and carbon credits purchasing more easily and cheaply than other players, as well as providing the added value of green branding.
As well, Landcare Research is shortly to get ISO environmental certification for its carbon measurement and auditing methods.
