DOC recovers all costs to process a concession application from applicants regardless of whether the application is approved or declined. The cost of processing a concession depends on whether the application needs to be notified or not; and/or whether the application is a standard application or is complicated/complex.

If at any stage an application is withdrawn, or it is declined DOC will invoice the Applicant for the costs incurred by DOC up to that point.

These fees are separate from the ongoing concession fees you will have to pay if your application is approved.

Conforming concession process fees

Fees are fixed cost, and must be paid at the time of application.

Single conservancy: Up to 10 sites $285+GST, plus $95+GST for each additional 10 sites
Multi-conservancy: As above

One-off concession process fees

Estimated standard fees:

Single conservancy: General: $95+GST; Filming and sporting events: $150+GST
Multi-conservancy: General: $95+GST per conservancy; Filming and sporting events: $150+GST per conservancy

Non-notified concession process fees

Fees are estimated for the cost of processing a standard non-notified concession. If the application is particularly complex or complicated then further costs will be incurred. In this situation the Applicant will be sent an estimate of costs.

Estimated standard fees:

Single conservancy: $1330+GST
Multi-conservancy: $1330+GST plus $500+GST per additional conservancy

Notified concession process fees

DOC will recover the cost of processing, including public notification and any Hearings. DOC staff will provide an estimate of the likely application processing time and cost when your application is received. The majority of notified applications cost more than the minimum fee.

Estimated standard minimum fees:

Single conservancy: $1330+GST
Multi-conservancy: $1330+GST plus $500+GST per additional conservancy

Re-issue (only available to existing concessionaires if invited by DOC)

Estimated standard fees:

Single conservancy: $665+GST
Multi-conservancy: $665+GST plus $200+GST per additional conservancy

Refund policy

As part of DOC's new approach, if we fail to meet our processing timeframes the estimate of costs to process your application will be reduced depending on the length of the delay.

Our reduction policy is the same as councils use for resource consents: 1% per day late after the deadline, up to a maximum of 50% of the total processing fee.

However, this will not apply if you have delayed the process.

Ongoing fees

You will be charged additional fees throughout your concession. These are:

  • Annual management fee to cover administration time
  • Monitoring fee (if required) to cover monitoring the effects of your activity
  • Activity fee per head (if a guiding concession), or a minimum of $200 per year:
    • Less than one hour $1+GST
    • Half day $5+GST
    • Whole day $10+GST
    • Children half price
  • Annual rental (if a landuse concession).
